Tafelen (Dinner)

Thursday February 2nd 18.15 hrs

Eating together is one of the best ways to be part of a community and to truly enjoy good food. We plan to start around 18.15, but Facebook does not have that option in the event options.

So join us for a dinner at Tafelstraat 13. Give yourself some vegetables and vitamins, a nice dessert, coffee, tea, and help us out doing the dishes (with the help of a dishwasher).

You can sign in until 1pm on Thursday.

The dinner is €4,00 per person.

Movie: Woody Allen's The Sleeper

Sunday February 5th 18.00 hrs

Do you remember seeing 'Midnight in Paris', one of Woody Allen's last great movies?

The Sleeper is a bit older and very different but still no doubt a Woody Allen movie: a 1973 futuristic science fiction comedy. The film contains many elements which parody notable works of science fiction. The plot involves the adventures of the owner of a Greenwich Village health food store played by Woody Allen who is cryogenically frozen in 1973 and defrosted 200 years later in an inept totalitarian state.

Film and Philosophy Series: Over the Hill

Wednesday February 8th 19.00 hrs

Over the Hill is a powerful look at the forces of the marketplace which worm their way into our minds and bodies making 35-year-old women over the hill.

Sunny Bergman draws from her personal experience to discover why, at 34, she is worried - and angry - that her days as an attractive woman are numbered. What she discovers is the persuasive power of the cosmetics industry and fashion magazines. Rather than making women feel better about themselves, they actually make them feel worse. Women are no longer able to see themselves in a proper perspective but fall victim to a seductive and corrupting industry as they struggle in vain to achieve a beauty ideal that doesn't exist.

This documentary provides us with enough questions, statements and ideas to start an interesting discussion afterwards.

Ecumenical Student Service

Sunday, February 12, 19.30 hrs

This semester, our ecumenical student services will be in the middle over every month at the usual time on Sunday evening.

Our services are open to all students. We gather together in an atmosphere of celebration and openness. The songs we sing are carefully chosen for an international group of people, with different backgrounds and traditions. There is a moment to pray and be silent, a moment to share and listen. We read a passage of scripure and reflect on it. We form a group to feel and experience being part of a community that is focusing on accepting and learning from each other.

After the service we hang out, chat, and have coffee or tea.

Taize prayer

Tuesday February 7 18.30 hrs

Prayer is like fresh air to your soul. After a day of letting your mind work hard, take some time to let your soul breathe.

A Taize prayer is a half-hour moment of silence, readings, prayer and lighting a candle. A moment to find some peace after a hectic day. Afterwards, when you have time: join us for a drink at the Onze-Lieve-Vrouweplein.

We gather in front of the main entrance of the church at 18.25 hrs.
