In August 2003 I started to work as University Chaplain at Tafelstraat 13.
I’m usually there from Monday until Thursday, sometimes on a Friday or during the weekends.
From 1994 until 1999 I studied religion at the Catholic University of Nijmegen, nowadays called Radboud University of Nijmegen.
After graduating I obtained a degree to teach history of religion.
I taught at one of Maastricht’s secondary schools for some years and it was a great job.
Then there was a vacancy at Tafelstraat 13, the possibility to become a chaplain. A new challenge, to which I felt attracted. The job seemed to be a nice one, so I stayed for a few more years.
Equipped with a degree for this profession as well, my job gives me a lot of fun and enthusiasm: Tafelstraat 13 provides the possibility for students to look a bit further than their usual horizon, to meet people who –for a while- share their way in life. I think it is a nice and challenging task to add my share as a chaplain as well.
My way of being a chaplain is inspired by my catholic background. I’m involved in the European organisation of university chaplaincy. Since June 2007 I’m a member of the board of CEUC, a European umbrella organization for university chaplains (
www.ceuc.org).
Through this I hope to make exchange of knowledge and experience among university chaplains in and from different countries possible, I also hope to contribute to professionalizing our occupational group and to the possibilities of going along with the globalisation of the world of university and higher education.
