To the outside world it may not always be apparent, but a lot of the work at Tafelstraat is done by volunteer students, the members of the
student board (aka the studentenplein), and we're now looking for new members for the coming academic year. What are we looking for in a
pleinmember?
We are looking for a social, outgoing person, who enjoys organising activities together with a small team of dedicated people.
You don't have to be religious to join, but it is useful if you are a bit of an idealist and have an interest in the wider world.

Annual European International Model United Nations

Are you interested in the United Nations and the NATO? In world issues? In international relations and diplomacy? In international law, development and human rights? Would you like to represent a country as a delegate in one of the councils of the UN or NATO, negotiate with university students from all over the world and improve your debating skills while making lots of new friends?

Then participate in the 20 th annual European International Model United Nations (TEIMUN) from July 5 th to 11 th 2007 in The Hague , The Netherlands !

TEIMUN is an annual MUN-simulation in the classical sense of the word. This means that it is a simulation of several organs of the United Nations and in our case the NATO as well, which is done by university students from all over the world in the time span of one week.

Why is TEIMUN so special?
First of all, it is one of the bigger MUN-simulations completely organized by students. Over 220 students from over 50 different countries will participate in the 20 th annual conference this summer. This culminates in a conference at a high academic level with great cultural diversity, in which you get to know people from all over the world.
Second, TEIMUN takes place in the 4 th UN city of the world: The Hague (After New York, Geneva and Paris ). This does not only allow us to have a range of interesting guest speakers every year, but also gives participants the opportunity to visit some of the most important International lawmaking bodies in the world, like the International Court of Justice (in the famous Peace Palace), the International War Crimes Tribunal for Yugoslavia (ICTY), or the newly established International Criminal Court (ICC).

Why visit TEIMUN?
Firstly, for people that have an interest in international relations that want to pursue a career in international organizations, it provides an important insight in the functioning of such organizations. Secondly, it is an excellent practice for people that want to improve their knowledge of the English language, to improve their debating skills or to learn how to reach a diplomatic compromise.
Thirdly, with all the excursions and social activities, TEIMUN is also a week of fun. By night you will encounter all different national ways of partying in a unique international atmosphere. You will meet fellow students from every different continent on earth, you will taste their cultures and built a network of international friends and future colleagues!

Which councils will be simulated?
Because interests of students obviously diverge, when registering, you will be able to choose between six different organs to participate in. These organs are:
•  The General Assembly (GA)
•  The Security Council (SC)
•  The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
•  The International Court of Justice (ICJ)
•  The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
•  The North Atlantic Council (NAC)

Interested?
For all details and more info about for instance the programme, the venue, guest speakers, council topics and conference fee please visit our website www.teimun.org

Are you already bursting with enthusiasm to enter into this social, cultural and intellectual challenge this year? Then register via our website www.teimun.org Please note that the earlier you fill in the registration form, the bigger the chance to be granted the country of your choice in the council of your choice.

The Board of Directors of TEIMUN 2007 is looking forward to your registration and if any questions arise, please feel free to contact Vivienne Hugenholtz. v.j.hugenholtz@teimun.org

STUDIUM GENERALE

Studium Generale offers a broad program with academic and cultural activities. The program consists of lectures, workshops, concerts and theatrical performances. The majority of the scheduled events are Dutch-spoken, but they also include a number English-spoken events.
The Studium Generale is a separate University department, which is present at almost each Dutch University. About three times a week Studium Generale Maastricht offers a wide programme of lectures and cultural activities on a variety of themes. It's interesting, it's useful and it is even fun! You can visit the activities from September thru May (academic year).
The cultural programme presents a variety of activities in the Culture Café (Stand-up Comedy, Cabaret, Free Stage, Student Songcontest, etc.). Most of the time language is not a problem to enjoy these activities.
With the lectures the Studium Generale offers programmes providing a wider experience of the arts, culture, science and society. These lectures usually are in Dutch. However Studium Generale Maastricht also organizes lectures in English. You will find information on the activities for English speakers at the English programme page. The lectures can be attended for free. For the cultural activities we charge a modest admission fee.
